Precision Machining for High-Temperature, High-Strength Waspaloy Components

Waspaloy CNC Machining Services

Waspaloy is a highly complex nickel-based superalloy renowned for its exceptional strength and oxidation resistance at extreme temperatures. However, its high shear strength and tendency to work-harden make it one of the most difficult alloys to machine.

At AXALLOY Precision, we specialize in the CNC machining of difficult-to-machine alloys. Operating from Shenzhen, we serve international engineering, procurement, and quality teams across the aerospace, energy, and oil & gas sectors. From high-value prototype development to controlled repeat production, we deliver complex Waspaloy components with uncompromising precision.

The Waspaloy Machining Challenge & The AXALLOY Approach

Machining Waspaloy requires more than just standard CNC equipment; it demands rigorous process control. The material generates extreme heat at the cutting edge, causes rapid tool wear, and is highly susceptible to work hardening and thermal distortion.

Before a single chip is cut, our engineering team evaluates material behavior, part geometry, tight tolerances, and surface requirements. We utilize highly rigid machine setups, optimized tool paths, specialized cutting tools, and high-pressure coolant strategies to prevent work hardening and ensure dimensional stability.

Whether your project involves thin walls, complex contours, or critical precision interfaces, we provide a stable, repeatable manufacturing route.

Core Machining Capabilities for Waspaloy

Our facility is equipped to handle the unique demands of nickel-based superalloys across a volume range of 1 to 10,000+ parts.

1. Multi-Axis CNC Milling

We utilize advanced 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis milling centers to process complex structural components, impellers, and brackets.

  • Maximum 5-Axis Part Size: Ø500 × 400 mm
  • Milling Tolerance: Down to ±0.005 mm
  • Positioning Accuracy: ±0.005 mm
  • Minimum Wall Thickness: 0.5 mm

2. CNC Turning & Mill-Turn Machining

For shafts, sleeves, nozzles, and multi-feature rotational components, our up to 9-axis mill-turn centers allow for complete machining with fewer setups, ensuring stronger feature relationships.

  • Maximum Turning Diameter: Ø500 mm
  • Concentricity & Roundness: Down to 0.008 mm and 0.005 mm respectively
  • Live Tooling: Off-center machining, cross drilling, and threading (Down to M1.0)

3. Wire & Sinker EDM

When Waspaloy features are too deep, narrow, or complex for traditional cutting tools, we utilize precision Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM).

  • Wire EDM Accuracy: Down to ±0.005 mm (Max thickness 300 mm)
  • Sinker EDM: Ideal for deep cavities, blind features, and sharp internal corners (Minimum R0.05 mm)
  • EDM Surface Finish: Down to Ra 0.8 μm (Wire) and Ra 0.4 μm (Sinker)

4. Precision Grinding

For critical sealing surfaces and bearing fits requiring ultra-fine finishes.

  • Grinding Types: Surface, cylindrical, and centerless grinding
  • Grinding Tolerance: Down to ±0.002 mm
  • Surface Finish: Down to Ra 0.2 μm

Typical Waspaloy Applications

Due to its ability to maintain structural integrity at temperatures up to 870°C (1600°F), Waspaloy is primarily utilized in demanding industries such as Aerospace, Energy, and Marine.

Gas turbine engine parts (blades, seals, rings, and shafts)

Aerospace fasteners and structural brackets

Exhaust system components

High-temperature valve bodies and manifolds

Precision seals and combustion chamber components
