Predictable Quality for High-Stress Tool Steel Components

Tool steels demand rigorous thermal management, dedicated cutting parameters, and strict sequence planning to avoid distortion, micro-cracks, and residual stress. AXALLOY integrates multi-axis milling, wire EDM, and sub-micron grinding to guarantee both profile accuracy and metallurgical integrity.

Pre- & Post-Hardening Machining

Optimized roughing with intermediate stress relief followed by controlled vacuum hardening and precision hard milling or CBN turning for parts up to 64 HRC.

  • Minimal distortion during quenching
  • Dedicated high-rigidity tooling

Wire EDM & Sub-Micron Grinding

Sub-micron cylindrical and surface grinding achieving flatness down to 0.003 mm, combined with precision wire EDM for tight internal radii (R0.05 mm) and intricate die pockets.

  • Surface finish down to Ra 0.2 μm
  • Zero recast layer risk with skim passes

Full Inspection & Certification

Complete dimensional inspection utilizing Zeiss CMMs, optical measurement, hardness testing (Rockwell/Vickers), ballooned drawings, and raw material traceability.

  • First Article Inspection (FAI) reports
  • Heat treatment & hardness certificates

Tool Steel Grades Machined at AXALLOY

Select the grade optimized for your application’s required wear resistance, impact toughness, and operational temperature.

A2 Tool Steel

Air-Hardening

Balanced toughness and wear resistance with superior dimensional stability during heat treatment. Ideal for punches, blanking dies, and precision structural blocks.

Typical Hardness: 57–62 HRC

D2 Tool Steel

High-Carbon / Cr

High abrasion resistance and deep hardening capability. Excels in high-wear stamping, forming rolls, shear blades, and heavy-duty forming tools.

Typical Hardness: 58–62 HRC

H13 Tool Steel

Hot-Work

High thermal fatigue resistance, high hot hardness, and excellent core toughness. Perfect for die-casting inserts, hot extrusion tools, and forging dies.

Typical Hardness: 44–52 HRC

M2 High-Speed Steel

Moly-Tungsten

Exceptional red-hardness, edge retention, and wear resistance under elevated friction. Preferred for cutting tooling, wear guides, and precision punches.

Typical Hardness: 62–66 HRC
