High-Temperature Nickel-Based Superalloy Machining

Waspaloy CNC Machining

AXALLOY engineers precision-machined Waspaloy components engineered for extreme thermal environments, critical rotational stress, and severe oxidizing atmospheres. From aerospace turbine discs and combustor hardware to high-pressure energy components, we deliver tight tolerances, work-hardening control, and uncompromising documentation.

Engineered Control for Difficult-to-Cut Superalloys

Waspaloy provides exceptional high-temperature yield strength and creep resistance up to 760°C (1400°F). However, its rapid work-hardening behavior, abrasive carbide content, and poor thermal conductivity require dedicated machining strategies, specialized tool geometries, and rigid multi-axis equipment.

Thermodynamic & Tooling Control

We implement custom-ground micro-grain carbide and ceramic inserts paired with high-pressure, through-spindle coolant delivery. This suppresses thermal concentration at the cutting zone and prevents the work-hardened white layer from developing on critical flight and rotating surfaces.

  • High-pressure through-tool coolant up to 70 bar
  • Programmed constant chipload to prevent dwell

Multi-Axis Milling & Mill-Turn

Complex geometric profiles, internal cavities, and off-axis thread details are produced on multi-axis machining centers and live-tooled mill-turn platforms. Consolidating turning and milling operations in single-setup envelopes eliminates cumulative datum stacking errors.

  • Up to 9-axis multi-tasking mill-turn platforms
  • 5-axis simultaneous impeller & blade finishing

Traceability & Metrology

Every Waspaloy production lot is governed by complete raw material mill test certificates (MTR), full heat treatment records, and rigorous multi-point coordinate measuring machine (CMM) verification in a temperature-controlled environment.

  • First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR / AS9102 format)
  • Traceability from raw ingot to certified shipment
